What is a Mastic Asphalt Floating Roof?

An asphalt floating roof is designed to cope with the natural movement roofing has to endure. A floating roof can be an extension to any commercial or private property.

More often than not, this would be a wooden roof structure. Mastic asphalt will be applied to detailed upstands on sheathing felt1 expanded metal lathing and 3 coats of mastic asphalt to a thickness of 30mm.

When the asphalt roof is completed, a lead flashing will be installed above the finish of the asphalt. This lead flashing will allow movement whilst not pulling on the asphalt which is what causes cracks to appear.
